Artwork explanation

My trip to New York took place in September, and as I arrived in the city, the 9/11 incident that was happened on September, come to my mind, which was somehow a reason for naming this collection of my artworks. However, the main reason for choosing this title is the boundary, which September makes between the summer and autumn, and it is a month, in which, the atmosphere of nature undergoes many changes, which could indicates the dichotomy in my artworks. In New York and Manhattan, you are faced with a series of upright buildings that are very different and opposed to our Orientals. This experience also influenced my personality, which has shown this effect in this new collection. The atmosphere of these artworks is a dichotomy and a combination of texture and soft and twisted forms that come from the Oriental spirit. In this collection, I have worked with warm colours, along with the cool and metal environment of a noisy city. You see that this dichotomy and contradiction are both visual and conceptually visible in the artworks.

Expert Opinion

“Bita Vakili’s artwork embodies a dialectic conversation between the mysteries of the self and outside world, in abstract images that look familiar at times. Her visual world is fluid, restless, and profoundly personal. It begins with a broad, vague entirety and ends up in marvellous, delicate details. Her distinctive works seem to be common lyrical abstractions at first sight, formed by fine outlines and undulating colour surfaces. Despite its tangible expressive language, Vakili’s artwork makes no attempt at employing strong impressive brushstrokes or emotional behaviour. Flavoured with rationalism, Vakili's works impress gently and implicitly, underlining the philosophy that particles constitute the entire universe. In fact, these delusive images connote both a world of particles and galaxies. It can be said that the main idea of her art is the similarity and symmetry of these microcosms and macrocosms. In both notions, the image she creates is a product of a downward look at the horizon, which is ultimately presented on a vertical plane. The view could be from near or from afar, mysteriously drifting between abstract and figurative painting. One can imagine that she is painting either the earth or a mere background; it can be either a large plane enclosed by a small rectangle or a tiny spot with a great concern. Thus, in addition to be a discovery in the world of particles and planes, Bita Vakili's painting is an experiment with textures and masses.”
