The last treasure

Artwork explanation

In the Earth Pulse Series, my view to the human geography, which has always been from space to the surface of the earth, is floating between the sky, the surface of the earth and its centre.

From the high altitude, the earth and human life, with all its concerns in the nature and modernity, are seen in the theme of abstraction and its composition with urban texture, which according to the requirements of my mental world, is formed based on the internal and external changes, from the personal concerns to the greatest global crises.

The embryonic forms in my works symbolize the life, pulse, and the hope for the future, which are hidden in the depths and are protected to become the seeds of a healthier and happier world.

Expert Opinion

The presence of objects on painting canvases is called collage. This presence originates from the artist’s demand towards the outside world and the similarity between the objects and forms and the concept, which the artist seeks to express.

An object has a real nature and is not an image, so the artist treats it carefully and obsessively. The history of the presence of objects on canvas dates back to the era of Iranian conceptual artists such as Marcos Grigorian or the artists of the Saqqakhaneh art; but nowadays, many artists, while dealing with art media crisis, have used this technique and one of the most famous artist among them is Bita Vakili, who is well-known in international auctions. This series, in the continuation of Vakili’s previous works, is a long distance view, created using collage of objects and volumetric colours. The dual domination of stable forms and curves, which has shaped the theme of Vakili’s works in the previous series, still could be seen in this series.

The artist in her statement alludes to the dualism of inside and outside, the East and the West, and now and the future.

In her point of view, metal structures and the modern urban planning with stable forms and telecommunication towers and repetitious square-like cells are a symbol of the West and the presence of twisted clouds and embryos development in the human womb is a symbol of the East. This is an eternal conversation, which from the painter’s perspective, should be passed through contemporary historical conditions. This is an eternal conversation, that from the painter’s point of view, in the contemporary historical condition from which, one should cross over.

In Vakili’s artworks, an emotional and expressive behaviour can be observed in the professional use of colours as a metaphor for texture of the earth and the sea, as we have witnessed in her other works; on the other hand, she controls her behaviour in the visual scope, as at the beginning of creation of an artwork, a creative process is defined, through which, the end and the outcome could be predicted. The conceptual balance, seen in her works, is the result of this logic. Perhaps Vakili can be called a conceptual and expressionism artist, as the artist’s abundant interest in the accumulation of abstract visual details, such as texture, colour, and material, also, conceptual and specified logical allusions to the subject of her exhibition are the approval of this claim.
